From what I understand, you have to have 65 psi in order to have combustion. 85 is about average for the older motors. Newer motors have around 110 to 115 but the older motors were not designed for that. I am getting ready to put new rings in my 5.5 HP motor. I don't know what my compression is currently but I have gas sputtering out of the front of the carburetor which leads me to believe that there is too much pressure blowing by the pistons into the crank case. Rings are hard to find for these old motors. I know of one place but they seem to be expensive and I am still shopping. I've got someone who is going to help me with the ring job and I intend to write it up for this site.
